Eleanor L. Rice, 75, of Cambridge, died Friday (April 13, 2001) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 15, 1926, in Saltville, Va., daughter of the late Clifton F. and Blanche V. (Davidson) Goff.

Mrs. Rice was a homemaker and a member of First Presbyterian Church, Cambridge, where she belonged to the Women’s Association. She was a past member of Alpha Omega Circle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip H. Rice Jr., on March 24, 1980; a daughter, Mary Ruth Gognat; and a son, Phillip H. Rice III.

She leaves three grandchildren, Joseph J. (Jacalyn) Gognat of Powell, Phillip H. (Uthai) Rice IV of San Diego, Calif., and Jennifer Rice of Los Angeles, Calif.; four great-grandchildren, Alex Gognat, and Chloe, Natalie and John Rice; a sister, Mrs. D.C. (Mary) Brooks of Virginia; and a nephew, Cliff Brooks of South Carolina.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Scott Funeral Home, Cambridge.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, Cambridge, with the Rev. Michael Seely officiating.

Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery.

BETHESDA — Delbert Querry, 69, of Belmont, died Saturday (April 14, 2001) at Forrest Hills Nursing Home, St. Clairsville.

He was born Sept. 6, 1931, in Craigsville, W.Va., son of the late Jess and Dorothy (Hartley) Querry.

Mr. Querry retired from the former Saginaw Mine of St. Clairsville, and was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was a member of Lafferty Moose and St. Clairsville VFW Post 5356. He was a Baptist by faith.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Doby and Terry Querry; and a sister, Darlela Long.

He leaves his wife, Arlene Hamrick; five daughters, Elaine Billetter of Missouri, Drema Bontempo of Warwood, W.Va., and Sheila Turney, Patricia Piper and Jennifer Perkins, all of Belmont; eight grandchildren, Sharon, Heather, John, Eddy, Jamie, David, Camie and Abbigale; five great-grandchildren, Demetre, Logan, Deoveon, Alexis and Natasha; three sisters, Eura Olsen, Barb Martin and Caroline Lutz, all of Ashland.

Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Morristown. Military graveside services will be conducted by Belmont County Council VFW.

BYESVILLE — Charles H. Brown, 82, of Caldwell, died Friday (April 13, 2001) at Summit Acres Nursing Home, Caldwell.

He was born April 19, 1918, in Calais, son of the late Chance and Celia (Hoffer) Brown.

Mr. Brown had worked at Bakers Farm Equipment and B&N Coal Co., prior to retirement.

He attended East Union Methodist Church and Center Free Methodist Church.

He was a member of the Building and Trade Union.

He enjoyed working on old lawn mowers and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel (Dunn) Brown, in 1995. They were married June 5, 1941. Also deceased are three brothers, Lester, Ralph and Claude Brown; and a sister, Ruth Ritterback.

He leaves six sons, Charles Brown, Terry Brown, Robert Brown and Kevin Brown, all of Caldwell, Jerry Brown of Summerfield, and Mike Brown of Byesville; four daughters, Connie Brown and Kathy Couch, both of Byesville, Patricia Thompson of Woodsfield, and Cheryl Cazzell Murphy of New Concord; a brother, Virgil Brown of Caldwell; a sister, Betty Hashman of Ashland; 28 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Black Family Funeral Service, Byesville, where services will be 1 p.m. Monday with Pastor Mark Slay officiating.

Burial will be in Center Free Methodist Cemetery.

COLUMBUS — Lindsey Paige Harrison, infant, died Thursday (April 12, 2001) at Children’s Hospital, Columbus.

She was born March 31, 2001, in Columbus, daughter of Chris and Melanie (Morland) Harrison of Gahanna.

She is survived by a brother, Connor; maternal grandparents, Ed and Fran Morland; maternal great-grandmother, Edith Laughman of Cambridge; paternal grandmother, Carol Harrison of Plainfield, Ill.; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at New Life Community Church, Gahanna, where a service of remembrance will be at 8 p.m.

A private funeral service will be Tuesday.

BARNESVILLE — Howard P. Garrett, 60, of Piedmont, died Friday (April 13, 2001) at Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling, W.Va.

He was born May 7, 1940, in Akron, son of the late Vernon L. and Mary (Butler) Garrett.

Mr. Garrett retired from Akron Children’s Hospital, where he served in the security department.

He was a member of the Ohio Army National Guard, and belonged to St. Matthias Catholic Church, Freeport.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, Grand Knight of Assumption Council and Barnesville Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Vern Garrett.

He leaves his wife, Lois A. (Menhorn) Garrett; three nephews, Brian, Greg and Todd Garrett all of Akron; a niece, Michelle Pribonec of Akron; a sister-in-law, Marlene Garrett of Akron; great-nieces and -nephews.

Peggy J. Coen, 61, of Cambridge, died Saturday (April 14, 2001) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.

SENECAVILLE — Pauline Jones, 81, of Lore City, died Friday (April 13, 2001) at Cambridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Dec. 26, 1919, in Lore City, daughter of the late John and Mary (Popik) Ambro.

Mrs. Jones was a psychiatric aid at the former Cambridge State Hospital for 12 years. She had also worked at Universal Pottery.

She was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, where she belonged to the Catholic Women’s Club and the church choir.

She was a member of Daughters of America, and Kipling VFW Post 7371 Ladies Auxiliary.

She was a graduate of Lore City High School, and enjoyed playing bingo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jones, in September 1988. They were married June 13, 1942. Also deceased are a son, John Edward Jones; four brothers, John, Joe, George and Andrew Ambro; and three sisters, Irene Rawlins, Mary Estadt and Sister Joan Terese.

She leaves two sons, Jim Jones and Allen (Pat) Jones, both of Lore City; two daughters, Kathy Williams of Columbus, and Mrs. Dean (Sharon) Dearth Jr. of Lore City; two sisters, Ethel Ambro of Lore City, and Mrs. Howard (Victoria) Rogers of Dover; seven grandchildren, Lori Ann Gilcher, Douglas A. Jones, Christa Ralph, Steven Dearth, Jason Jones, Katrina Williams and Bobby Williams; three great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Ryan and Jenna Gilcher; several nieces and nephews.

Lucy F. Hunnell, 62, of Old Washington, mother of Carl Hunnell, longtime editorial employee of The Daily Jeffersonian, died Saturday (April 14, 2001) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge.

She was born July 29, 1938, in Covington, Tenn., daughter of the late Guy and Mary (Eddie) Rushing.

Mrs. Hunnell retired from March Electric, where she served as a fan builder.

She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

She leaves a son, Carl (Marcie) Hunnell of Mansfield; a daughter, Mrs. John (Kay) Jenkins of Old Washington; a brother, Clarence Rushing of Millington, Tenn.; a sister, Mary Cooper of Brighton, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Melody and Mindy Jenkins, and Lucas, Nicholas and Zackary Hunnell; and several nieces and nephews.
