HEATH — Edna Pauline “Ted” Simmons, 89, of Heath, died Tuesday (April 17, 2001) at The Inn at Sharon Brooke in Newark.

She was born Sept. 4, 1911, in Cambridge, daughter of the late William T. and Elma (Young) Craig.

Mrs. Simmons attended Muskingum College and received a bachelor of science degree from Ohio University in 1962.

She taught school for 44 years, having began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse at Granny’s Knob, near New Concord. During her career she also taught at Fulton School in Heath, Madison and Nashport schools.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Newark and the Story League, the Agape Circle and Triangle Class at the church. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Otsego and Licking County Retired Teachers Association.

She was a volunteer at Licking Memorial Hospital for 18 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Otho Harold “Oats” Simmons, on March 28, 1970. They were married June 5, 1935. Also deceased are five brothers and three sisters.

She leaves two daughters, Jane Walsh of Lewis Center, and Mrs. Michael (Janet) Flor of California; a granddaughter, Jessie James Walsh; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at Henderson, Van Atta and Johnston Funeral Home, Heath. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Heath Chapel of Henderson, Van Atta and Johnston Funeral Home, with the Rev. Don Holtzapple officiating.

Services will also be 3 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Otsego, with the Rev. Gerry Wade officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to services at the church.

Burial will be in Otsego Cemetery.

NEWCOMERSTOWN — Marjorie L. McCants, Newcomerstown, died Tuesday (April 17, 2001) at Union Hospital, Dover.

Larry J. Burt Sr., 65, of Cambridge, died Wednesday (April 18, 2001) at Good Samaritan Hospice, Zanesville.

He was born May 23, 1935, in Byesville, son of the late William B. and Florence M. (Valentine) Burt.

Mr. Burt was set-up-man for Westinghouse/Echo Houseware. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, Cambridge.

He was an avid golfer.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Burt.

He leaves his wife, Thelma E. Burt of Cambridge, whom he married Sept. 4, 1954; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Brenda) Green of Byesville; four sons, Perry (Shanda) Burt of Cambridge, Ronald (Nancy) Burt of Buffalo, Larry (Jean) Burt Jr. of Old Washington, and Shawn David (Misty) Burt of Byesville; two sisters, Norma Pierce of Cleveland, and Rita Hildebrand of Cambridge; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Daisy B. Talbott, 96, of Cambridge, died Tuesday (April 17, 2001) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.

CANTON — Reba M. Thomas, 80, of Canton, died Wednesday (April 18, 2001) at Aultman Hospital, following an illness.

She was born July 2, 1920, in Cambridge, daughter of the late Adam and Fay (LaFallette) Dragosin.

Mrs. Thomas had lived most of her life in Canton. She was a member of Canton Baptist Temple and the MADD Organization.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ruben C. Thomas, on April 28, 1985; two daughters, Judy Fay Thomas and Becky (Thomas) Slutz; a granddaughter, Stephanie Jo Slutz; and two brothers, Paul and William Dragosin.

She leaves four sisters, Lucille Ramsey of New Philadelphia, Mrs. Tom (Norma) Hills of Navarre, Mary Lam of Lore City, and Sarah Hanes of Cambridge; a brother, Charles Dragosin of Lore City; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews and friends.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Reed Funeral Home, Canton, where services will be 11 a.m. Saturday with Dr. Harold Henniger officiating.

Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park.

WOODSFIELD — Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield, for Emma K. Winland, 102, of Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of 300 Fourth St., Woodsfield, who died Tuesday (April 17, 2001) at the center.

Pastor Sheryl Allen will officiate. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery, Lewisville.

She was born Jan. 14, 1899, in Lewisville, daughter of the late Hamilton and Martha Ellen (Thompson) Denbow.

Mrs. Winland retired from Bayes Restaurant, Woodsfield, where she served as a cook.

She was a member of First Free Methodist Church, Woodsfield.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Harold Winland and Francis “Spark” Winland; two sisters, Mamie Edwards and Cecil Feiber; four brothers, John, Clyde, Walter and Rader Denbow; and a grandson, Joseph Edwin Rinard.

She leaves four daughters, Beulah Lumbatis, Delores McGarry and Lorna Jones, all of Lewisville, and Loretta Rinard of Woodsfield; a son, Gene Winland of Woodsfield; 29 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren.
