NEWCOMERSTOWN — Ruby J. Roahrig, 58, died Friday (March 30, 2001) at Union Hospital, Dover following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Oxford Twp., Tuscarawas County, June 15, 1942 daughter of the late Clarence E. Davis and Virginia R. (King) Davis.

She was a graduate of Newcomerstown High School, and was the class valedictorian. She was employed at Thompson’s I.G.A. office, Newcomerstown, for the past few years. Prior to this she was employed at the former Lawler’s Pharmacy, Newcomerstown, for over 20 years. She was a member of King’s United Methodist Church, Oxford Twp., where she served as Sunday School teacher. She also attended Hartwood United Methodist Church, Washington Twp. Mrs. Roahrig served as a school volunteer for the Newcomerstown school system for many years and recently received the Friend of Education Award. She was a charter member of the Newcomerstown Tourism Unlimited, she was also involved with the Frontier Apple Festival and several car shows. She was also a precinct worker with the Newcomerstown Board of Elections and belonged to the Newcomerstown 100 Club and served as its president. She also performed in the Newcomerstown Sweetheart Follies and was a member of Buckhorn Grange 1445, Salem Twp. She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, baking and spending time with her grandson.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Roahrig was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Mary A. (Robert) Davis of Guernsey.

She leaves her daughter, Annette (Kevin) Parks; her grandson, Carter F. Parks; three brothers, John L. (Wanda) Davis; Charles W. Davis, all of Newcomerstown and Robert E. Davis of Guernsey; one sister, Barbara A. (Robert) Renhard of Newcomerstown; three uncles, several nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at Ourant Funeral Home, Newcomerstown where services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Tom Gruver officiating.

Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery.

The family requests memorials be made in Mrs. Roahrig’s name to an individual’s favorite charity.

CADIZ — Madeline Elizabeth Swann, 77, died Friday (March 30, 2001) at Harrison Community Hospital.

She was born Feb. 2, 1924, in New Athens, Oh., daughter of Ernest and Bessie (Thorton) Yoho.
Mrs. Swann was a retired cook for the former R & F Coal Co., Cadiz. She was a member of the East Warren Street Church of Christ and a member of the Cadiz Business and Professional Women’s Club.

She leaves her husband, Earl Swann, whom she married May 25, 1946; two sons, Robert “Bob” Swann of Cadiz; and David Swann of New Athens; one daughter, Donna Turley, Uniontown, Oh.; one brother, Ed Yoho of Cadiz; two sisters, Bea Walters of Cadiz and Edna Mae Donley of LaMacia, Calif.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and 10 -noon Monday at Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home, Cadiz, where services will be 1 p.m. Monday with Evangelist Howard Hallmark officiating.

Burial will be in Cadiz Union Cemetery.

GRAYSVILLE — Mary Piatt, 100, of Graysville, Oh., died Friday (March 30,2001) at the Monroe County Care Center, Woodsfield.

She was born Feb. 9, 1901, in Graysville, daughter of the late Allen and Anna (Christy) King.

Mrs. Piatt was a homemaker, a member of the Graysville United Methodist Church and a member of the Women’s Society of the church for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 80 years, Glenn Piatt on April 13, 2000; one sister, Carrie Moore and two brothers, Harold and Lloyd King.

She leaves one daughter, Vera (Ralph) Ullman of Graysville; two grandchildren, Larry Ullman (Donna) of Graysville; Karen (Bob) Marks of Cambridge; three great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, where services will be 1 p.m. Monday.

Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.
