CALDWELL — Clarence O. Moore, 89, a resident of Summit
            Acres Nursing Home, Caldwell, for the past eight years and
            formerly of Sarahsville,

            died Tuesday (Dec. 5, 2000) at the nursing home.He was born Nov.
            27, 1911, in Noble County, son of the late Nora Moore Shafer and
            Mack Ray Shafer.

            Mr. Moore was a member of Bates Hill Church of Christ, where he
            had served as an elder and a deacon for several years.

            He retired from Clevite Corp. of Caldwell after 27 years of service.

            He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal (Bates) Moore, who
            died in 1992; a grandson, Michael Moore; and a
            great-granddaughter, Kyla Boyd.

            He leaves four sons, Robert L. (Martha), Ronald D. (Donna), Darrell
            E. (Anita) and Donald C. (Gara) Moore of Sarahsville; a daughter,
            Mrs. William (Linda) Franklin of Sarahsville; 22 grandchildren; 44
            great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

            Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at
            McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell, where services will be 1
            p.m. Friday with Evangelist Flavil Miller officiating.

            Burial will be in Bates Hill Cemetery.

                                   Harry Rees

            WOODSFIELD — Harry L. Rees, 78, of Woodsfield, formerly of
            Carolina Shores, N.C., died Friday (Dec. 1, 2000) at Ohio Valley
            Medical Center, Wheeling, W.Va.

            He was born Dec. 26, 1921, in Pittsburgh, Pa., son of the late Harry
            L. and Helen (Senft) Rees Sr.

            Mr. Rees retired from The Ormet Corp., where he served as a
            mechanical engineer.

            He was a member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield,
            and was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II.

            He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Barbin.

            He leaves his wife, Mary Lou (Gurtner) Rees of Woodsfield; three
            sons, Louis (Debra Sanborn) Rees of Barberton, Bill (Kathy
            Tremblay) Rees of Beallsville and Bob (Cyndi Ruehl) Rees of
            Apache Junction, Ariz.; a sister, Delores Rectanus of Perryopolis,
            Pa.; two grandsons, Joseph Sanborn Rees and Nathan Ruehl
            Rees.

            Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec.
            12, at St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield, with the Rev. Fr.
            David Gaydosik serving as celebrate.

            Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

            Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, is handling the
            arrangements.

            BYESVILLE — Ruben Spurrier, 86, of Buffalo, died Tuesday (Dec.
            5, 2000) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center,
            Cambridge.

            Arrangements are pending at Black Family Funeral Service,
            Byesville.

                                 Linda Williams

            COLUMBUS — Linda Lee Williams, 48, of Columbus, died
            Monday (Dec. 4, 2000) following a lengthy battle with breast cancer.

            Mrs. Williams received her doctorate from The Ohio State
            University. She was professor at The University of Pacific and a
            former president of Delta Humane Society in Stockton, Calif. She
            was active at Wellness Community and Columbus Cancer Clinic.

            She was a great lover of cats and a very giving person.

            She leaves her husband, Christopher Halkin; her parents, Ted and
            Jean Williams; a brother, Tom Williams; grandmother, Lois
            Williams, and aunt, Eloise Williams, both of Cambridge; uncle Dick
            Spalding of Bradenton, Fla.; 15 beloved cats.

            A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Overbrook
            Presbyterian Church.

                                Eleanor Hromyak

            Word has been received of the death of Eleanor (Gust) Hromyak,
            84, of Seminole, Fla., who died Sunday (Nov. 19, 2000).

            Mrs. Hromyak moved to Nokomis, Fla., in 1964 from Byesville,
            where she had attended Byesville schools and worked at Ecko
            Housewares. She had also worked at Cambridge Glass Co..

            She was a member of St. Justin Martyr Catholic Church, Largo, Fla.

            She was preceded in death by her husband, John; four brothers,
            Joseph, William, John and Walter.

            She leaves a daughter, Patricia Morris of Seminole; four
            grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a
            great-great-grandchild.

            E. James Reese Funeral Home and Crematory, Seminole, handled
            the arrangements.

                            Kathleen Betts Services

            Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Bundy-Law Funeral Home,
            Cambridge, for Kathleen Betts, 79, of Cambridge, who died
            Monday (Dec. 4, 2000) at her home.

            Pastor Jack Welch will officiate. Burial will be in Guernsey Memory
            Gardens.

            Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral
            home.

            She was born July 18, 1921, in West Virginia, daughter of the late
            Arlis and Coral (Butcher) Cross.

            Mrs. Betts had worked at Victoreen Instruments in Cleveland and
            was a Methodist by faith.

            She was preceded in death by six brothers; and a sister.

            She leaves her husband of 63 years, Ray Betts. They were married
            in 1939. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Joe (Betty Lou)
            Walker of North Ridgeville and Jo Ann Johnson of Cleveland; two
            sisters, Christine Marsh of West Virginia and Jeraldine Pierce of
            Cleveland; a brother, Bob Cross of Madison; seven grandchildren;
            12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

                      PHILLIP HENRY RICE III SERVICES

            A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian
            Church, Cambridge, for Phillip Henry Rice III, 48, of Cambridge,
            who died Monday (Dec. 4, 2000) in the emergency room at
            Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.

            The Rev. Michael Seely will officiate.

            No calling hours will be observed.

            He was born Nov. 2, 1952, in Cambridge, son of Eleanor (Goff)
            Rice of Cambridge and the late Phillip Rice Jr.

            Mr. Rice was a 1970 graduate of Cambridge High School and a
            1981 graduate of Antioch College in Yellow Springs.

            He was a former employee of NCR Corp. in Dayton, where as a
            sales marketing director. He traveled extensively to Istanbul, Turkey,
            as well as areas in the Middle East region along with South Africa
            and Mexico City, Mexico.

            He was a Presbyterian by faith and attended First Presbyterian
            Church.

            He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ruth Gognat.

            He leaves a son, Phillip H. (Uthai) Rice IV of San Diego, Calif.; a
            daughter, Jennifer Rice of Los Angeles, Calif.; three grandchildren,
            Chloe, Natalie and John Rice; and a nephew, Joseph Gognat of
            Columbus.
